Photo Gallery: Marken and Volendam on Film

Just 45 minutes outside of Amsterdam you’ll find the charming fishing villages of Marken and Volendam. While visiting Amsterdam in November, we spent a day exploring the coastline of Noord Holland. We started our day with coffee in the bright winter sun, overlooking Marken’s quaint harbour, before wandering its quaint backstreets. The buildings in the village are particularly distinctive: wooden houses painted green and built on stilts. We then took the ferry to Volendam, enjoying a lunch of kibbeling overlooking Markermeer lake before walking to De Kathammer windmill in the fading light of the day.
