Photo Gallery: Kew Gardens Through the Seasons

Kew Gardens has been a place we have visited for years. In 2024 we decided to take out membership to watch the changing seasons in this oasis of botanical beauty. From the orchid festival that brightens the greyest of February days, to the kaleidoscope of colour offered by autumn, Kew is magical at any time of year. This 35mm film photo gallery captures Marc Quinn’s magnificent metallic sculptures that were displayed across Kew’s grounds last summer, the fox and geese that call Kew home, the tropical flora and fauna of the glasshouses, the colourful borders of Great Broad Walk, the luminous red of Kew Palace, the golden light of late-summer and the spectacular shades of autumn.

Photo Gallery: Christmas in Bruges and Munich

In December, we revelled in the winter festivities of two of Europe’s most beautiful cities: Munich and Bruges. We shopped their Christmas markets, drank mulled wine, visited a fairytale castle that sparkled in the snow, and got lost in the magic of the season. Here is a photo gallery of both trips captured on 35mm film.

Photo Gallery: Marken and Volendam on Film

Just 45 minutes outside of Amsterdam you’ll find the charming fishing villages of Marken and Volendam. While visiting Amsterdam in November, we spent a day exploring the coastline of Noord Holland. We started our day with coffee in the bright winter sun, overlooking Marken’s quaint harbour, before wandering its quaint backstreets. The buildings in the village are particularly distinctive: wooden houses painted green and built on stilts. We then took the ferry to Volendam, enjoying a lunch of kibbeling overlooking Markermeer lake before walking to De Kathammer windmill in the fading light of the day.  In this post you will find a collection of film photographs capturing this idyllic Dutch day trip.

Photo Gallery: Autumn Arboretum

Autumn might signal the shortening of days and the beckoning of winter months but nothing beats those perfect October days where clear blue skies illuminate the riotous colour of the falling leaves. We spent a glorious day basking in the jewel tones of Winkworth Arboretum. Naturally, we captured the day on 35mm film and here you can find a collection of some our favourite shots.

London Life: Summer Edition

After a spring full of colour, the transition into summer was particularly exciting. While the weather during British summertime can be temperamental at best, when you get those days of uninterrupted sunshine, lighter nights and all-day warmth, London is magical. This summer we strayed off the beaten track, visiting several of London’s obscure heritage sites, including Marble Hill in Richmond and Kenwood House in Hampstead Heath. We also explored London’s Regent’s Canal, a peaceful oasis in the bustle of the city.

Photo Gallery: Liverpool on Film

Our favourite place in the world is Liverpool, the city in northwest England, located on the River Mersey. The UK’s fifth largest city was voted as the European Capital of Culture for 2008, in recognition of the city’s cultural, musical, sporting, artistic, and nautical heritage. During our most recent visit to Liverpool, we caught some of our favourite views on 35mm film and here you’ll find a gallery of these captures.

Photo Gallery: The Stockholm Archipelago on Film

Sandwiched between our visits to two capitals on the Scandinavian continent – Copenhagen and Stockholm – we spent a blissful few days on the latter’s Archipelago. Sail boats, salty dips, sauna sessions, and all the shimmering shades of summer punctuated our days. We played many games of backgammon, beer in hand, against a backdrop of birdsong and the most beautiful views of Baltic waters. Here you’ll find some of these idyllic moments captured on 35mm film.
